Additional Buttons

part from the row of function keys across the top of the keyboard there are some buttons, which have a number of uses outside word processing and games playing.

he Boot or Power button is located at the top of the keyboard, on the right for those with extended ones and in the middle for those with normal ones. It looks like a triangle pointing left and can be put to a number of uses.

rogrammer's buttons

hese buttons can only be found on the older Macs and consist of two buttons on the side of the CPU. Usually on the left side or the front. One has a symbol that looks like the power button's on the keyboard (restart button), and the other looks has a symbol like a little dot (interrupt button).

nterrupt button

hen the button shaped like a dot is pressed, it will call up an interrupt box which looks like a blank dialogue box with a ">" in the top left hand corner. Typing a single "G" in the box will dismiss it. The box is actually used by programmers wanting to debug their programs and serves little other use.

omputers without this button can simulate it by pressing the [Apple] key and [Boot] key together. This can be useful because typing in a special code can sometimes get you out of freezes. The code is:

SM_0_A9F4 [RETURN]
G_0 [RETURN]

ubstituting the "_" for a [Space]. N.B. Naturally, this will not always work and will leave you having to restart via the above method, below method or plug pulling method if it fails.

estart button

his button will restart your computer almost without fail each time it is pressed, which makes it an easy option for getting out of Freezes and Crashes. That's about all, folks!
